One of the significant legacies of British rule in India is Shakespeare.

His plays have become an integral part of the Indian ethos, transformed through contact with different aspects of Indian culture. Some of the more innovative assimilation of Shakespeare can be found in Indian popular cinema, the world's largest film industry. The talk will be illustrated with excerpts from Indian films.

The presenter is Indranil Chakravarty, who has been Professor of Film History and Screenwriting at India's leading film institutes. He has published three books and is currently doing a Creative Practice PhD at the Victoria University of Wellington. A donation towards the Philosophy House Earthquake Strengthening project would be welcome.
