The Bluestone Room’s NYE.

In a nod to the storied history of the pub that was one of Auckland’s most important music venues in the 60’s and 70’s, The Bluestone Room hosts a classic Rock and Soul themed New Years Eve party this year, featuring vinyl experts Tina Turntables and Murray Cammick.

The oldest standing building in the city’s CBD, the Bluestone was originally constructed as a kauri gum store in 1861. Fast forward to the 60’s and it was the centre of the city’s swinging music scene, primarily known as Tommy “Mr Rock & Roll” Adderley’s The Top 20, then Radio Hauraki’s 1480 Village, Club Bo-Peep, then Granny’s, before eventually staggering into the late 70’s as the city’s second punk venue Zwines.

Performers over the years have included Tommy Adderley’s Headband, the great Billy TK’s Human Instinct, Larry’s Rebels, the Pleazers and the Scavengers. Even Keith Richards made it on stage after a 70’s Stones show…

Bringing it all back home will be 95bFM’s Tina Turntables (Puhoi’s Queen of Rock & Soul) and the redoubtable Murray Cammick, esteemed photographer, and editor of the late, lamented Rip it Up magazine. Expect a killer rock and soul doubleheader, featuring stylish vinyl selections from two of the best collections in Auckland.

The Bluestone are revamping a live and DJ music programme under the auspices of guitarist Tom Rodwell (Storehouse/Don McGlashan), and Auckland music fans can expect a bohemian and diverse programme of rhythm and roots over the coming months, in an eclectic and mature venue, truly Auckland city’s hidden gem.

Murray Cammick 6 - 10pm
Tina Turntables 10 - 2am
