Murdoch Stephens from the Doing Our Bit campaign will speak to where the refugee crisis has gone in the last year, what New Zealand’s policies are - including the new community sponsorship model – and how local communities can get involved.

Find out more about the campaign here: http://www.doingourbit.co.nz/

Fatumata Bah will start the evening, joining Murdoch to welcome him to the city and speak to the issue from a local perspective. For example, did you know that while Auckland used to resettle the most refugees in New Zealand, the housing crisis means that only people who already have family there are settled here by the government? But also, Auckland is also still the main city where refugees migrate internally to - so how does that effect support provision?

We'd expect the evening will run something like this:
- 6:05pm - Welcome from MC
- 6:15pm - Murdoch Stephens on the refugee crisis, NZs response and how you can get help.
- 6:45pm - Questions and Answers.
- 7:00pm - Tea and coffee
- 7:20pm - Further discussion in small group of locals keen to help with getting MPs and candidate pledges.

We'll have t-shirts and beautiful screen printed A2 'Refugees Welcome' posters for a small charge. Our election action booklets plus stickers will be available for a donation if you can or free if not!
