A starry-eyed story about a little blue penguin who seeks help from the night sky when his friend is captured by a sea monster. Korora is terrified when he and his friend are attacked by a sea monster while in the ocean. The moon and stars give him the strength and confidence to go back and fight the monster and rescue his friend. The monster is made of all the rubbish floating in the sea.

The children get close up to a very cute little blue penguin and are introduced to the idea that these special little birds and the ocean where they live need our protection from rubbish. The show also introduces some constellations Maori recognised in the sky, Te Matau a Maui (Maui’s fish hook /Scorpion’s tail) and Te Ra o Tainui (a large waka that lies across the horizon at the time of Matariki and is comprised of the constellations Matariki, Tautoru (Orion’s Belt),and Hyades.

This show uses a mixture of string puppetry, shadows, glove puppetry and mask.
We are delighted to work with String Bean Puppets on this special event!
