Theatre Website

Torbay Theatre’s next production is Private Lives by Noël Coward.

Director, Anne Rimmer, is very excited about her wonderful cast. Campbell Ellison, who had lead roles in all of Torbay’s G&S operettas, and Jenny Whisken (Gaslight) are joined by Melissa Williams (Shoreside’s Love’s Labour’s Lost at the Pumphouse), and Scott Hayden, best known for his hilarious Basil Fawlty at the Rose Centre.

Playwright, composer, actor, director, entertainer and wit, Noël Coward was known simply as ‘The Master’. He wrote Private Lives for himself and Gertrude Lawrence, and the play remains a classic of English theatre.

Set in the elegant 1930s, this comedy of manners involves two couples on their respective honeymoons in adjoining hotel suites. Developing into a sort of romantic quadrangle, there is intrigue, a midnight escape, recovered romance, acid bickering, and some of the funniest and sharpest lines in theatre.

Torbay Theatre presents by special arrangement with Play Bureau, Private Lives by Noël Coward from 19th - 27th May 2017.

All performances at the Gate Theatre.
