The 28th October 2017 will be the first observance of Raa Maumahara, the National Day to Commemorate the New Zealand Wars.

The date was chosen because it is also the anniversary of the 1835 Declaration of Independence. Cliff Simons will talk about the significance of the commemoration and will give an overview of New Zealand's 19th Century battles between Māori and Pakeha which are known as 'The New Zealand Wars'.

Lieutenant Colonel Cliff Simons PhD is the Director of the New Zealand Wars Study Centre in the NZ Defence Force.
