Don't miss the rare opportunity to hear New Zealand’s best brass band - The National Band.

Conducted by Nigel Weeks (MA Performance) this band of 34 brass and percussionists has been selected from throughout the country to compete at the 2017 World Music Contest being held in Kerkrade, the Netherlands in July.

Joining the band in its final concert before departing for Kerkrade is guest soloist David Bremner, the principal trombone for the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Aotearoa Maori Group. The concert will feature new works written especially for the 2017 National Band by Gareth Farr and a major work by English composer Peter Graham called The 39th Parallel written in memory of brass band icon Kevin Jarrett MBE.

As well as competing at the World Music Contest the band and guest artists have also been invited by the Hong Kong Government to give a concert in Hong Kong as part of the official 20th Anniversary Celebrations of the handover of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to China. A great honour indeed.

The band has been preparing for this tour for over a year - rehearsing its repertoire as well as fundraising in the hope of bringing a world title back to New Zealand.

Please come along and enjoy the performance by the 2017 National Band of New Zealand, David Bremner and the Aotearoa Maori Group.
