Local Theatre takes a new direction:

Napier Repertory Players are introducing a new addition to their yearly programme - the Studio Production. Plays presented under this title will fit into a category they are calling Theatre Without Borders.

These plays are intended to be powerful storytelling dramas that are thought-provoking and will appeal to an audience looking for extra depth in their theatre visit.

The initiative is also intended to offer opportunities for those interested in gaining new theatre skills e.g. directing, lighting, sound, as well as allowing actors to enhance and widen their performance skills.

Napier Repertory Players will feature one Studio Production each year which will run for a limited season.

The premiere Studio Production is "After The Accident" by Julian Armistead and has as its theme Restorative Justice. It is being directed by Mason Price.

It is the story of a car crash that caused the death of a child and is told from the point of view of three characters, the boy in prison who caused the crash and the child's mother and father. When they meet through a session of Restorative Justice the responsibility for the accident shifts from one to the other.

Their emotional journey will evoke many opinions within the audience as they try to guess the outcome. The issues raised from this strong piece of theatre are sure to stay with everyone long after the play has finished.

Bookings are available at the Municipal Theatre, Tennyson Street, Napier.
