We need your help to name the takahē chick at Punanga Manu o Te Anau/Te Anau Bird Sanctuary!

This chick is rather special and has even been called a miracle chick! Its parents, Paku and Quammen from Orokonui Ecosanctuary, have never produced a fertile egg before and were given some foster eggs to hatch. But when the Takahē Ranger checked Paku’s original eggs to his surprise he found an embryo growing inside one.

So this egg was brought to the sanctuary and our local takahē pair, Tumbles and Kawa, have done a great job of hatching and rearing the chick who is now nearly three months old and in need of a name.

How do I enter?
Pick up an entry form from the Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre and return it or email it to: takaherecovery@doc.govt.nz

In your entry, suggest a name for the chick and your reason for choosing the name. To help you choose a name, you can read more about takahē at www.takaherecovery.org.nz

Entries close 5pm Monday 20 February. We’ll announce the winning name at the Takahe Chick Picnic on Saturday 25 February.
