Tahitian dance sensation, Moena Maiotui is travelling from Tahiti to present Ori Tahiti dance workshops here in Auckland, New Zealand.
Moena Maiotui started dancing at the very early age of 5. She has performed in well know groups as O’Tahiti E, the Grands Ballets de Tahiti and since January 2008 has integrated Tumata Robinson’s group called “Tahiti Ora” as their lead dancer.
Her dancing abilities have enabled her to tour the world going from Japan to Australia, New Caledonia, France and Europe, Canada, Hawaii and of course the United States as a dancer and has spent the last four years as an Ori Tahiti professor for Tahiti Ora.
She has become Tahiti Ora’s choreographer for the Vahine and participated actively in Tahiti Ora’s performance (The Legend of Marukoa) in the Heiva I Tahiti of 2011. Tahiti Ora won the overall 1st prize for the best performance in the professional category – 1st prize for the costumes designed by Freddy Fagu made out of fresh plants and flowers – 1st prize raatira (leader with Victor Teriitahi) - 2nd prize best orchestra.
That year Moena won the prestigious 1st prize female dancer of the Heiva I Tahiti contest 2011 with Tahiti Ora.
We are all looking forward to having Moena here in Auckland for her first ever Ori Tahiti workshop in New Zealand!
