The themes of art are usually consistent. They are always about translations and relationships. That is to say, the artist investigates the notion of self and their relationship to self, the other and their relationship to the other, the world and their relationship to it, and, what is the nature of their spirituality and their relationship to such?

Art is a mirror of the culture from which it originates and there is really nothing new. What is new is that every artist responds to common concerns in their own way, using their individual resource as a reflection of themselves.

Britt Alpe, Sallyann Hingston, Tracey Porteous, Kim Shaw.
