Milk Bar Cowboys, Ice cream and the Modern Office- 1950's in the Hutt.
About Space and Council Archives is hosting an exhibition featuring a collection of images and plans of 10 iconic Modernist Movement buildings built in Lower Hutt during the 1950’s.

The pop up will also highlight icons from the era, royal visits and teenage rebellion in the Hutt. There will be performances by the Lower Hutt Rock ‘N Roll Society, a vignette highlighting memorabilia from the infamous Elbe’s Milk Bar and a Speaker Series on architecture, social history and their connections to our lives today and film of the lives and times in the Hutt.
Highlights include a milk bar vignette complete with ice cream from Carrello del Gelato and kids games and activities.

The monthly Kai on High food trucks featuring Wellington Food Truck Collective will have a 1950’s flair to coincide with the exhibition, Milk bar Cowboys, Ice Cream and the Modern Office – 1950’s in the Hutt. Enjoy Rock and Roll music with Roadhouse Rockers, dancers and some great street food!

Come in Saturday and Sunday afternoons to enjoy rock and roll music by Roadhouse Rockers and dancing by Hutt Valley Rock n Roll Society.
Speakers include Bronwym Labrum, author of Real Modern: Everyday New Zealand in the 1950's and 1960's, Redmer Yska historian and author of All Shook Up, will talk about Bodgies and Widgies. Others like Ben Schrader will talk about state housing and Christine McCarthy will talk on modern architecture.
