A one-day intensive mime and movement workshop for performing artists and people wishing to develop their physical skills and awareness, with tutor/facilitator Fergus Aitken.

This workshop will revitalise and bolster your approach to movement awareness.

Utilising elements of illusionary mime, slow-motion, robotics, movement analysis, physical comedy and improvisation, workshop leader Fergus Aitken has three decades experience of performing and teaching in over a dozen countries worldwide.

There are two free places available. To apply for these scholarship places please submit a 1-page letter detailing why you feel you should be offered a free place.

This workshop is directed towards artists with an active performance practise and other people keen to expand their physical awareness - it will focus on extending skills and insights into physical performance powers.

The workshop focuses on:
- Illusionary Mime
- Movement Analysis
- Slow Motion
- States of Tension
- Isolation and Robotics
- Character Development
- Spatial Awareness and Proprioception

The workshop will take students on a journey of play and exploration, developing techniques via games and improvisation.

Fergus Aitken is a New Zealand-based comedian and international award-winning entertainer. He has performed in theatres, comedy clubs and festivals in more than 15 countries worldwide, including in Russia, England, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands and Australia.


Fergus trained in mime, physical theatre, circus and clown, in the UK and in NZ. His teachers include Robert Bennett, Desmond Jones, John Wright, Simon McBurney, Les Bubb, John Bolton, Deb Pope, Giovanni Fusetti, Thomas Monckton, Fraser Hooper and Ira Seidenstein.

Fergus has taught extensively for:
NASDA (Christchurch); Whitireia Performing Arts Centre's Stage & Screen course; 1996 - 2010
Fergus was a guest physical theatre teacher-trainer at NZ's only full-time circus school Circoarts (Christchurch)
