Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, East Auckland.

This course runs over eight weekly sessions 7 - 9pm starting on Wednesday 22 February 2017.

If there is sufficient demand, other courses may be scheduled later in the year, so please call the office or visit our website to express interest.

For those who have completed Te Reo Māori Beginners with Selwyn Community Education and wish to continue learning.

This course will build from the beginner's course of greeting others and introducing yourself in Te Reo Māori to continued sentence structuring, learning Tikanga (customs) and application of marae etiquette and protocols.

Karakia (recitations), waiata (song), and whakatauki (proverbs) will continue to be included. Tikanga go hand in hand with Te Reo Māori and will be taught alongside the language. Learning will be brought together at a noho marae (overnight marae stay) which will take place towards the end of the course. Any extra costs towards the marae visit will be advised closer to the time and the date/time confirmed.

Expected learning outcomes:
- Correct pronunciation of Māori words
- Greater knowledge of phrases and greetings (mihimihi), waiata, karakia, whakatauki and pepepa (introductions)
- Basic understanding of sentence structure
- Basic understanding of key aspects of Māoridom including Tikanga
- Knowledge of what happens on a marae, powhiri etiquette and protocols (welcome and process)

We also offer a beginners course. Please visit our website for more information.

Our mission is to provide quality affordable and accessible lifelong learning opportunities for our community.
