Three local players, Hannah Fang (violin), Sasha Routh (‘cello) and Roy Tankersley (harpsichord), will be joined by Whanganui organist Leonard Cave in a presentation of Baroque works as part of the Te Manawa Series. Leonard Cave has recently retired to Whanganui having served as a Director of Music in many secondary schools in Auckland and Waikato area, directed school and community choirs and been much sort after as an accompanist and organ recitalist. Leonard will be playing his own chamber organ, which will balance beautifully with the sounds of the French harpsichord. Two keyboard duets will be played featuring the Spanish composer Padre Antonio Soler and the late 18th century Italian composer, Giovanni Zucchinetti.

The Te Manawa Globe Theatre audiences were excited by Hannah Fang’s local debut in 2016, and her team work with well-known cellist Sash Routh in a concert of baroque music will set the works alight! The French Baroque master Jean -Phillippe Rameau is featured in his fourth ‘Pièces de Clavecin en Concerts’. These elaborate works display wonderful interplay between violin, cello and harpsichord in three contrasting movements with descriptive titles.

The German Baroque Master Johann Sebastian Bach features Sasha Routh performing his second sonata in D major for ‘cello and harpsichord and Leonard Cave plays a set of variations by his forebear Samuel Scheidt.

The concert culminates in a collaborative arrangement of Corelli’s famous ‘La Folia’ variations featuring all four performers. This concert will be held in the Globe 2 theatre, which is smaller size than the Globe 1. Patrons are therefore recommended to arrive early to secure a seat. Admission is by donation, recommended to be from $5.
