Food Theme Guided Trip to Permaculture Farms.

Love food?! The food themed Hīkoi is an exciting opportunity to learn about food from a sustainable, self-sufficient perspective. The trip is put together by The Society for the Resilience and Engagement of the Community of Ashhurst and Pohangina and will include a look at a spectacular home-made, edible garden in Levin.

The knowledge of Kath Irvine and her garden designs is extensive. It ranges from growing plants, prepping soil, building frames, sowing seeds, looking after fruit trees and pruning, to name a few. This a great opportunity to obtain answers to those long, eluding, questions about sustainable food and gardening.

We are also lucky enough to visit the William’s eco-farm stay! The farm uses natural water supplies such as: springs, rainwater and streams. The farm also makes use of solar panels for power supply, has a bio-filtered swimming pool and solar windows on the house. Alongside these environmentally friendly features is a home-grown garden consisting of vegetables, potatoes and wheat. Not to forget, they also farm sheep and cattle!

These two eco-friendly farms are eye openers of real people living sustainable lifestyles. Even more exciting is the fact these farms and people are within our own Manawatu region! An opportunity to learn and be inspired!

Information regarding the costs and bookings will be soon available on our website.
