Do you live, work or play in Kapiti? We are an interesting and diverse community, known for our creativity. So we figure it is time to bring people together for our first ever Kapiti Community Hackathon Event.

It's time to try something new. We will all start out as strangers, end up in teams, and some people might even become friends!

What is a Hackathon?
A hackathon is a short, intense burst of creative energy. It's a mix of software development, design, product validation, making prototypes, building apps and solving problems. It’s fast paced, a lot of fun, and a brilliant way to play hard and be part of a team giving their all.

In reality, a hackathon is any activity that brings something useful or cool into the world. This can take the form of a product, service, charity, or even an artwork, there are lots of different flavours of hackathons. Our hackathon is about teaming up to build interesting things - it might be a part started project, or something brand new.

Who comes to a hackathon?
Anyone is welcome. While many attendees can and do write code, we need participants with all sorts of other skills too. Hackathons are a genuine opportunity to use your skills for something different. Be the person who creates something that people want - something that is useful, solves a problem, and has impact.

What do I need to bring?
You'll need to bring any gear you would like to use. For most people that means a laptop will come in handy.

We'll provide some basic stationery, but if you want to make stuff - whether it is internet-of-things or art - you'll need to bring it with you. If you have an idea, need some gear, and contact us early enough, we may be able to help.

We'll provide lunch and dinner, but you will need to bring snacks if you want food in between these times.

We're currently working on sponsorship - so we hope to be able to offer some cool stuff and free stuff to participants (and maybe a prize or two for the winning team).

I'm in! What next?
Grab a ticket here, see you there.
