Jef Neve presents his new album with NZ rhythm section Cam McArthur, Ron Samsom and The Black String Quartet.

Renowned Belgian pianist Jeff Neve returns to New Zealand touring his new CD Spirit Control which reached the top 10 of the Belgian charts in the first week of its release. Not someone who thinks in boxes, this exquisite project fuses a jazz rhythm section and string quartet, overlaid with the beauty and intensity of Neve's playing.

Neve's open-minded approach to life and music has resulted in exciting collaborations from Toots Thielemans to Jonathan Jeremiah, from José James to Jamie Cullum. From the Dutch rapper Typhoon to Gabriel Rios and Kobe Proesmans, and a remarkable duet with American pop musician Sam Sparro featured on "Caterpillar".

Spirit Control builds on this success in a remarkable way: The tempo is high, the piano is pushing the flow, drums and electronics create a rumble in the belly of the music, while the strings take care of the drama. This results in vivacious melodies and songs.

"Heart-breakingly lyrical melodies, tasteful arrangements, sometimes groovy, even towards dance and house in the rhythm only by the string players: This pearl has it all" - Jazzism (NL, 5/5).
