Double Bill - Helen Dorothy and Alan Downes.

England-born, Wellington-based Dorothy is an acoustic folk artist in an honest sense. She's a singing, guitar playing storyteller. There are other musicians and instruments, sure. But there are no studio tricks going on here, nor is there wizardry in the arrangements or the mixing.

Instead, Dorothy's songs are left to speak for themselves - providing tales and observations, thoughts and commentaries. This is an intimate listen - if you aren't prepared to give it all your attention there's no point putting it on. The reward from these 'alone' kind of albums comes in the sad, thought provoking and beautiful places they can take you to..."

Shaun Chait, NZ Musician Magazine Oct/Nov 2009... more.

Alan Downes, telling the stories of country life he remembers
- From hill farms of Hawkes Bay
- Yarns of shepherds and shearers, post-war children.
- A past we seem to be forgetting
- Old cars and Dogs, Mountain stew, and Homebrew.
- The best we send offshore, Men who worked the land.
- Drifters, Dealers, Magpie, and the ones that got away.

Our backcountry stories are the same where ever we go. Alan writes them in a rhythmical rhyme and wraps them. In a few chords with a dash of humour. I guess these are the songs of the Huiarangi

A special Double Bill with two singer-songwriters telling tales of NZ in their observant and thoughtful way.

Doors open 7pm with a blackboard of local musicians at 7:30pm, followed by a light supper and then the guest artists.
