Hagley Jazz began in February 1992 in the inimitable Chilton House. The course grew from the vision of founder Wytze Hoekstra, and with the support of Hagley College, it unfolded to become a well-respected catalyst and starting point for many musicians seeking a further pathway into musical arts.

Over the past twenty-five years, more than five hundred students have been through the course. It has had only three program leaders starting with Wytze who handed the baton to Todd Jones and now Annabel Harrold is at the helm. By way of celebrating this fantastic course, Hagley Jazz is holding two memorable evenings.

The Gala on Friday the 30th of June combines a celebration of achievement and is the premiere fundraising event. The proceeds raised will go towards a new PA system, something the course has long wished for. On the wish list also is an upright bass.

Special guest stars include Jennine Bailey, Wytze Hoekstra, River City Jazzman, Frictionless, Jazz Overlords, Kris Finnerty, The Curio Club, Cathy Irons and Swing Dancers.

The following night on July 1st, will continue the 25-year celebration with a “Jam Session” where current students will showcase what contemporary pupils are committed to achieving. We would love to invite past students to come along and perform. This evening is free and there will be a cash bar available. BYO finger food.
