The theme is Resilience and it's going to get wild!

Free workshops, market stalls, live music, bonfire, kids activities, wine tasting, NZ Mountain Film Festival shorts, a roast dinner and discovery abound at Mrs Woolly’s mid-winter Great Glenorchy Getaway Day!

Bring the whole family and discover your inner survivor!

10:00am: Food & fun, music & markets all day long
- Mrs Woolly's BBQ Brunch Buns and Shepherd's Pies are served - come early!
- A wide selection of your favourite market stalls and new ones too
- Great buys on winter gear at Mrs Woolly's General Store: Swaandri specials and more!

10:30am: How to fit snow chains: We all carry them, but do you know how to fit them so they don't damage your car or come off?

11:00am: Prepare your mind to survive the unexpected. Adventurer and mental preparedness student Jo Guest shares her learnings on harnessing the power of the mind when you need it most.

1:00pm: Right knife, right purpose. Learn the right knife for each purpose, and most importantly, how to keep them sharp and ready.

2:00pm: Wild game charcuterie. Chef and outdoorsman Phil Galbraith from In2Food shares his wisdom and passion for wild game salami, sausages and more. Learn curing, smoking and processing game.

12pm and 3pm: free sneak-peek tours of Camp Glenorchy!

Come see NZ's first Net Zero Energy accommodations! See the inspiring meeting taking shape and discover what the cabins will look like when they open in December 2017. Learn about the site's ability to shelter 100 people for a week as a civil defence welfare centre.

It’s always a family affair at the Great Glenorchy Getaway Day.

12pm: Kids get crafty. Paper snowflakes
2pm: Epic snowball battle... with real snow
3pm: Make your family's own Emergency Preparedness Kit.

Throughout the day: feel what an earthquake feels like, without the drama! Take a ride on the Earthquake Simulator. Superhero pup "Stan," from What’s the Plan Stan helps families explore what to do when the unexpected happens.

4:00pm: Bonfire, live music and toasted marshmallows
5:00pm: Bar opens. Taste wines from Mt Difficulty Wines ($10pp).
5:15pm: Warm the belly and the spirit with hot soup, slow-roasted lamb with winter veggie trimmings, potato mash, gravy and a roll. Just $45pp for dinner, the speakers AND the movies!
5:45pm: Ordinary people doing extraordinary things: an evening of inspiration and awe

Al Fastier, Antarctic Heritage Trust: Al is leading the effort to restore the epitome of resilience and hardiness under tough conditions: the historic Scott’s Base in Antarctica. Al will be showing images and sharing stories of working to preserve history in one of the most challenging environments on the planet.

Erik Bradshaw, Federated Mountain Clubs: Active mountaineer, backcountry skier, tramper, kayaker and sailor since childhood, Eric will share what it takes to survive in the wild elements. Explore how creativity is key to solving unexpected challenges.

A specially-curated selection of short films from the 2017 NZ Mountain Film Festival celebrating the resilience of the human spirit:

Mount Scott: In the footsteps of the early polar explorers, four young Kiwis take on Antarctica’s Mount Scott. Striking a perfect balance between art and adventure, Mount Scott is a true tale of courage.

The Waters of Greenstone: Two women tackle the Coast to Coast endurance race spurred on by their own resilience and the spirit of the Southern Alps’ sacred pounamu.

(enviro) Mental: One man’s journey to become more environmentally-friendly and his attempt to show NZ and the world that everyone can make a difference and contribute to change.

Tanya The Hut Warden: Tanya is a rock-climbing, trail-running nature enthusiast living out her passion for conservation as a hut warden. Through connection with the wilderness, Tanya has unlocked her boundless passion for protection.

Mountain of Heaven: Endurance runner Jenny Tough takes on the ancient nomad trails of the Tien Shan mountains in Kyrgyzstan, carrying everything she needs to survive with her on her back. A gutsy tale of adventure and resilience.
