The annual Great Barrier Island Wharf to Wharf Marathon is open for mountain bikers, runners and walkers.

The course begins at Port FitzRoy Wharf in the north of Great Barrier Island and ends at Tryphena Wharf in the south. Following the northern harbours and down to the Kaiaraara Stream the course then continues up and down Department of Conservation tracks, through regenerating native bush.

This is the most challenging and rewarding section of the marathon reaching an elevation of 180metres with spectacular views. The course then winds around the bottom of Te Ahumata and the second half of the course is on the road with views of white sandy beaches, green farmland and small settlements.

There are full and half marathon categories plus a 10km option and 5km fun run. Something for everyone!

Great Barrier Island is a beautiful, unspoilt island 90 km off the coast of Auckland. This is the major annual fundraiser for Kaitoke School - funds raised are used to provide our students with education outside of the classroom experiences to build confidence.

This is particularly important living in a small, remote area. This event is held in memory of Barry Mouat, who was a key member of the school community and foundation organiser of this fundraiser.

A huge thanks to our major sponsor Barrier Air and our many local sponsors who support us year after year.
