Wellington (by-way-of-Dunedin) band Grawlixes embark on an NZ tour in celebration of the release of their first album Set Free. Grawlixes are an indie-folk band who explore romance with dry wit and sharp tongue, crafting infectious songs about relationships and not being invited to parties.

Continuing the lineage of artists who bring sadness to their sprightly melodies, Grawlixes music often deals in the melancholy with self-deprecating honesty and beautiful boy-girl harmonies, sung by Robin Cederman and Penelope Esplin.

Having returned from an extensive tour through Europe in 2015, they will be joined by Alex Vaatstra on violin. A recent signee to Home Alone Music, who also play hosts to French For Rabbits, Lake South, Eb & Sparrow and Fraser Ross. Their new album, “Set Free,” will be available for purchase from July 7th.

Album reviews:

"This is a wonderful first release....clever and tuneful and biting." - Tim Gruar, 13th Floor

"I'll listen to the thing again. So many great things to play from this record. The opening track 'Set Free', which is the title of said album, is pretty gorgeous, to say the least. (The) record is absolutely fantastic." - Mark Rogers, Radio NZ

"Indeed there is an emotional clarity fuelling these songs both with close harmonies and fine instrumentation." - Hamilton News

Julian Temple Band formed in Dunedin, New Zealand in February 2004. They have independently recorded and released five albums; In Sea (2006), Quiet Earth (2009), Balance Escapes (2010), Upsidedownbackwards (2012) and Ceiling In The Sky (2015). Within a week of its release, Ceiling In The Sky debuted on the Official New Zealand Music Chart at number 3. The band have toured extensively across New Zealand, Australia and the USA.

Julian Temple Band conjures a spirit somewhere between the Red Hot Chili Peppers and a gypsy caravan which, having started off jamming American songs, ended up lost in a desert, found some cactus juice and jumped on another horse entirely. - Shane Gilchrist, ODT, NZ
