Grafia, an acronym for "get right away from it all", is a band of musicians working with artists, photographers, video/filmmakers and songwriters who enjoy collaborating to perform, compose and record.

We are based in the Wairarapa and put on, contribute to shows wherever we are invited. Our creative influences stretch across several genres and songwriters eg.

Lennon/McCartney, The Grateful Dead, B.Dylan, E.Clapton, J.J. Cale, The Rolling Stones, Bryan Ferry, James Taylor, Alan Taylor, Dave Rawlings and the Old Crow Medicine Show, Johnny Cash, Etta James, Solomon Burke, Mavis Staples, Lenny Te Whare, Leonard Cohen, Christy Moore and Jimmy McCarthy to name a few. We are based in Masterton and play mainly in the lower North Island but have ventured on several occasions to Auckland.

Venues played at include King Street Live in Masterton (now "deceased" but for a while a fantastic performance space for us and many other local musicians to work in close to home), The Cabana in Napier, alive and well thanks to The Gov'nor, Roy Brown, Cactus Jacks in Waipawa (no longer a one horse town thanks to the vision of Lynley Walker and her Penny Lane development), The Tin Hut in south Wairarapa, The Moon Bar in Newtown, The Pavement Bar on Symonds St. and The Kiwi International Hotel on Queen St. Auckland.

Currently, the band plays regularly at Turkey Red Country Hotel in Greytown and The Lakehouse in QE Park, Masterton. New opportunities to showcase our songs and entertain those willing it is welcomed.

We are available for concerts, cafe/bar gigs, private parties and other special events, playing a set of originals (now on our first album "Ultimately Free" CD), or covers in the genres of indie folk, Irish, blues, classic and country rock or boogie jazz.

Our first album, "Ultimately Free", a collection of eight originals, was released in May 2016.
