The Grafia band plays live and has a story told in song on it's album - "Ultimately free".

Grafia is an acronym for "Get Right Away From It All".

It is also a group of musicians who include graphic arts, photography/video-making and work collectively resulting in the band creating songs and putting on shows with stage lighting, background imagery and a sense of the 'live" performance.

Mr. Keith Austin is the keyboard maestro, who also plays electric bass and piano accordian, and sings back-up vocals. Supporting Keith is the newest band member, Dave Dewsnap, playing electric lead and occasionally acoustic guitars, and also singing back-up vocals.

The third member of the core trio is 'Dr Rob' Maunsell, who has adjusted from professional life and grown into his role as lead singer and rhythm guitarist. He adds tasty sounding harmonica, mostly at appropriate times, to songs that are blues/rock and a little bit of country inspired.

The band with Stephan Schulz on violin and recorder and Stefan Brown on guitar have recorded a collection of original songs, written by Rob and arranged by the trio at their weekly practice sessions. Jordan Tredray, a Masterton native, played drums and percussion on the album but is unable to join the trio for Sunday live sessions as he has a professional drum school to attend to.

Titles of the songs include "Think about it", a thought provoking boogie blues led by Keith on piano, "The Archivist" a folk ballad with a memorable chorus, To be heard, a folk rock anthem with a plea to attend to our mentally unwell sisters and brothers and "Quietly going blues", an ode to Rob's father, John, set in an extended slow-tempo blues form.

Thanks to Keith Marshall and his team at The Lake House the band has enjoyed an prolonged season of regular gigs fortnightly to monthly for the last twelve months and this will continue into the foreseeable future. It's a lovely atmospheric venue offering great food and warm-hearted service.

Now that it's reliably warmer the band will be playing on the verandah and whether you're outside in the fresh air enjoying the ambience of this picturesque lakeside cafe or inside soaking up the elegant yet simple rustic mood of the place you'll be able to hear and be involved with Grafia's wonderful range of songs, melodies and tunes.

Take a break, get right away from it all and relax with us this next Sunday afternoon and the ones that follow at The Lake House in Masterton's beautiful Queen Elizabeth Park.
