Since its inception in 1982, the Edith Fischer/Jorge Pepi-Alos Piano Duo has achieved considerable acclaim in Europe and the Americas as one of the finest ensembles of its kind today. Shared musical conviction, interpretative artistry and technical brilliance have enabled this duo to attain the highest artistic level.
Hailing from South America, this is their first visit to New Zealand.
Edith Fischer studied with the great Claudio Arrau in New York and is a past winner of the Dinu Lipatti Prize in London and the Munich International Competition. Her diverse discography includes all the Beethoven sonatas and the complete works by Ravel. Jorge Pepi-Alos is Professor of Composition at the University of Chile’s Music Department in Santiago, Chile, where he takes an active part in the city's musical life as composer and pianist.
This special recital will include classic works from the piano solo and two pianos repertoire, as well as compositions by Jorge Pepi-Alos and New Zealand composer Jenny McLeod.
