NZDC invites you to a Master Class with Stephanie Lake.

This workshop will give participants an introduction to the signature choreographic style of Australian Choreographer Stephanie Lake.

The workshop will consist of an advanced level contemporary technique class followed by a choreographic workshop. Working instinctually and playfully alongside an intricate, disciplined approach to dance making, participants will work with improvisation and rigour with an emphasis on the joy found in the creative process. This will be a chance to experience Stephanie's gutsy physicality and rhythmically complex movement language, as well as a "way in" to develop your own choreography.

Open to ages 14+

Stephanie Lake is a multi award-winning Australian choreographer and dancer.
Her performance career spans seventeen years, touring and dancing extensively with Lucy Guerin Inc and Chunky Move and she was a founding dancer in Balletlab. Stephanie’s acclaimed choreographic works have been presented throughout Australia and have toured to France, Germany, Hong Kong, Denmark, Scotland, Ireland and Singapore.

In 2014, Stephanie won the Helpmann Award and Australian Dance Award for Most Outstanding Choreography as well as the Green Room Award in 2011. She has received both the prestigious Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship and the Peggy van Praagh Choreographic Fellowship.

In 2013 she was appointed inaugural Resident Director at Lucy Guerin Inc. She has been commissioned by Queensland Ballet, Chunky Move, Sydney Dance Company, Dancenorth, Tasdance, Frontier Danceland (Singapore) among others.

Stephanie collaborates across theatre, film & TV, visual art and music video and has directed several large-scale public works involving over 1000 participants. She has over fifteen years of teaching experience as a guest lecturer at the Victorian College of the Arts and teacher of masterclasses around the world.
