Professor Kenderdine is at the forefront of new methods of digitally capturing and publicly exhibiting built and cultural heritage through interactive augmented reality in libraries, art galleries and museums all around the world.

A New Zealander, whose academic career began at the University of Otago, Sarah Kenderdine is currently Professor at the University of New South Wales Art & Design, where she is the founding director of the transdisciplinary Expanded Perception and Interaction Centre (EpiCentre), pioneering new visualisation infrastructures and projects across the arts and sciences.

She studied archaeology, sociology, phenomenology and marine archaeology working on numerous heritage sites around the world. She was awarded her PHD entitled “in-situ: Immersive Architectures for the Embodiment of Culture and Heritage.”

Kenderdine is currently on field work in Myanmar and Sri Lanka. She will be in New Zealand from the 4th April to 13th April. Her visit has been facilitated by the Friends of Futuna who host an annual lecture series with an international architect of note. This year they looked wider than just architecture and invited Professor Kenderdine to present the 2017 Futuna Lecture in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.

Her Wellington lecture having sold out, we are pleased to be able to host her at Te Papa in for an additional lecture in association with the Friends of Futuna and their sponsors for this event. She takes up a new position as Professor in Digital Museology at École polytechnic fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland in late April.

Door sales will be available outside Soundings Theatre from 5pm on the day.
