Cooking with the Impressionists (5): Mary Cassatt

Sorry this event has been and gone

  • Sat 16 Sep ’17, 9:30am – 2:30pm

Wellington High School, 249 Taranaki St, Mt Cook, Wellington Show map

If you love French cooking and Impressionist painting, you’ll love our series of one-day workshops, with a different artist featured in each session.

You’ll explore French Impressionism, and celebrate the good life so joyously captured by the Impressionists, with hands-on cooking workshops led by your tutor who is both a professional chef and an art historian.

Join one workshop or all eight over the course of the year – once you’ve done one, you’ll be sure to want to do more! This year’s series includes all-new material and new artists after last year’s very popular sell-out workshops.

(Listen to Wendy's 2016 interview with Kathryn Ryan from RNZ's "Nine to Noon" programme here.)

Mary Cassatt:
In 1874, the talented thirty-year-old American painter Cassatt left Philadelphia to study art in Paris, where she was greatly influenced by the work of her new friend, Impressionist Edgar Degas. Cassatt and her family shared a house in Paris, where they lived a privileged life, enjoying good food and the best wines and frequenting the finest restaurants. She also delighted in entertaining collectors and young students at her Paris home.

Curried chicken was a specialty of "chez Cassatt" She also had a sweet tooth for delicious desserts which were prepared by Mathilde Valet, her long-time housekeeper.
