an interchange / an exchange / an improvisation

Composure is an improvised creative practice which uses movement, dance and voice to negotiate a live engagement with the design of space, sound, and the relationships of others present. Dancers shift within the space creating worlds within a world. An experience that is explored and created purely in its moment of inception. We shape each other, we shape ourselves, we shape the space; we fulfil the tasks of our improvised reality.

Composure began as a student project in 2015 as an investigation of the mind and body in relation to others in the space and with the performance setting. Composure explores the boundaries of both making choreography and performance. At the core of this project is a desire to investigate our dance-making interests and to create a mode of performance that pushes us physically and creatively.

Composure is a 10-hour endurance piece; a platform which challenges our usual modes of performance as creators and dancers. We create a space for inclusivity, involvement, enjoyment. We offer an opportunity to see how dance is made, how it evolves and develops. All are welcome to come and watch and/or to participate.

-Come as a dancer; and investigate our methods of working with us.
-Come as a maker: bring an idea you would like us to use to make dance (a painting, a poem, a story you think could inspire movement).
-Come and play an instrument and we can improvise together!
-Come as an observer: sit and watch it all unfold!

We invite the audience to pop in and out of the space, observing, influencing, and contributing to the work. Join us for a few minutes or stay for an hour. Come again to watch our progress!
