This workshop will cover:
Community Governance and Effective Decision-making:
Enormous creativity and strength are possible when empowered individuals work together for the common good. Robin will introduce the key organisational structures and methods of consensus decision making that have served Earthsong so well.

Design for Community - Social and Environmental Issues:
Physical design doesn’t create community, but it can powerfully encourage or discourage community. Key aspects of design will be explored, from macro issues of site layout and common facilities to more subtle relationships between houses and collective spaces.

Project Planning – From Vision to Built Reality:
Cohousing projects involve a wide range of steps, from developing a cohesive group vision and legal and financial structures to collaborative design. Robin will share key learnings and processes that help create a successful cohousing neighbourhood.

Robin Allison is the initiator and project coordinator of Earthsong Eco-Neighbourhood, the award-winning 32-home cohousing neighbourhood in Auckland. With her background in architecture, Robin guided the entire development and construction phase of this innovative project, which demonstrates leading-edge sustainable design with intensive community involvement.

Robin now writes, teaches and consults around New Zealand to inspire and support thriving connected communities. She has just returned from the US cohousing conference in May, bringing renewed inspiration and insights from the scores of cohousing neighbourhoods across the USA.
