Martin Kay presents Forage

Featuring:
Martin Kay: alto sax/composition.
Callum Passels: alto sax.
Michael Howell: guitar.
Crystal Choi: piano.
Tristan Deck: drums.
Eamon Edmunson-Wells: bass.

Martin Kay is a leading Australian saxophonist known for his unique take on improvisation and composition. He has played with Song Fwaa, Continuum Sax, the Fantastic Terrific Munkle, the Sydney Symphony and Auckland Philharmonic Orchestras as well as lot’s more. Martin composed these charts while on a Banff residency with Vijay Iyer. For the past year, Forage has been in the paddock munching on these charts. Expect echoes of Mingus, Threadgill and both the Coleman's. Featuring some of Auckland's supreme creative talent. Come to hear the debut!

Forage are a garden-path ensemble. Neat and concise close to home, vege patch, almost zen garden with those little rocks and raked soil. Further down the track though, something has happened to the rabbits, and those trees, I mean really, should that branch really be hanging on that angle? I have heard of low hanging fruit but when sap flows in the bunnies’ veins like that then we are on the verge of saying something just because, well, yes, I think we should say something. Down the garden path, things got strange.’ (Anonymous quote from the Foragers' almanack).
