Ever wanted to learn how to cast glass? In this workshop, course participants will learn the art of lost wax casting using wax or clay to create a model. 2D and 3D forms will be discussed and completed.

The workshop fee includes all materials for creating your model and up to 1kg of gaffer lead crystal glass.

You will learn how to work with wax or clay for simple forms and demonstrations will be conducted as well as one to one guidance, as workshops are small and intimate.

Once your wax model is completed, you will learn how to invest your model, steam it out, weigh and wash the glass and how to fill a mould with single or mixed glass colours to achieve certain effects on your cast.

On the following week, you will return to divest your creation and learn the basics of cold working techniques from 10am until 1pm.

This is a fun and creative workshop with experienced glass artist and educator Susan. Past course participants have produced some wonderful work and evaluations have not gone below (5)!

All questions will be welcomed during the workshop and explanations provided.

Bring your own apron and wear comfortable closed in shoes and your own dust masks, and gloves (latex or vinyl, whatever your preference.

Any other casting workshop listed in September is not available. This is the only weekend workshop for the month of September and spaces are limited. However, if you have a group of friends, there is a discount for friends to do the workshop together and these can be discussed with Susan at the time of your enquiry.

The workshops are conducted in a working casting studio on a farm environment on a lake so provides lots of inspiration. Accommodation is available in Waiuku through Airbnb, and there is also Castaways Resort situation on Karioitahi Beach and Waiuku have a few motels which aren't too shabby either!

The workshop is open to beginners, experienced or not experienced.
