Introduction to Lost Wax Techniques.

The art of glass casting is an ancient art form. In New Zealand, we have been casting glass for well over 30 years. This workshop covers all aspects of glass casting and designed for those with or without experience in a glass.

It is run over two and a half days. The weekend will consist of learning the basics of working with wax or clay to make open cast moulds or wax work for making 3D works. The workshop does not include clay work or master mould making. There is a separate workshop for mould making one-on-one available to those who wish to do this type of work for production.

The casting workshop will introduce you to the basics of using wax for lost wax casting, how to build wax forms, carve, sculpt, design relief etc. onto your work. Moulds are then invested and steamed out and glass weighed and washed and then fired. On the following Saturday, course participants will return to divest their creations they will have realised in the week before.

Workshops are extremely popular and so avoid disappointment by registering now via email. Registration forms are available via email only. Fees are $280 per person, however, groups of friends discounts are available per person per group of friends. This can be discussed directly with the artist and educator.

The workshop fees include materials and up to 1kg of gaffer lead crystal glass to use for firing your work. BYO face masks, tools for sculpting (if any), and apron and gloves, preferably vinyl or latex for working.
