Callum Gentleman

Callum Gentleman plays blues/folk noir with the odd dash of country. It’s Nick Cave meets The Smiths in a dark alley where they conspire to kidnap Bob Dylan and move to New Zealand. It’s Tom Waits sharing a bottle of moonshine with Leonard Cohen at 4am.

He's a trouper, raconteur, impresario, chancer, and murder ballad lover. But above all, Callum Gentleman is a storyteller. These stories come out as songs, poems, campfire yarns, whiskey-soaked bar banter. Stories about good people doing bad things, and bad people who try to be good... but often fail. Stories about fallen angels staring at heaven, contrite demons yearning for redemption, down-and-out junkies scrounging for a dollar, the devil gets it on with the wrong hooker. Stories told in a child's whisper, a father's tears, and a drunken man's roar.

Callum often performs with allies such as Joel Vinsen (guitar) and Sam Loveridge (violin) beside him, but is just as happy going solo. He's played gigs with artists such as Tami Neilson, Delaney Davidson, Marlon Williams, Tiny Ruins, Hopetoun Bros, Nadia Reid, The Bads, Bond Street Bridge, Great North, Heart Attack Alley, Reb Fountain, Will Wood and the mighty Eastern.

You will recognise the supporting act Kara Britton (K.B.Music) from when she opened for Anika Moa or when she played at Fritter Festival... and will be supporting The Slacks when they are in Whangarei for their 'Big Aroha' tour.

Kara is an extremely talented singer/songwriter who will warm the crowd with her alt-folk rock persuasions and relaxed vibe. A storyteller in her own right, Kara shares the depth of her music with a fun twist, connecting with every crowd who is ready for her honesty & humour.

"What a great show! Nicely crafted & delivered with drama, dynamics, & intensity - Callum's voice sounds amazing." - Cherie Mathieson - Sola Rosa, Mark de Clive Lowe, Lewis McCallum
