Come along and hear Brecon Carter, MNZM, talk about his life as a professional violinist, including how he started, the fascinating things that have happened along the way, and how his current private violin teaching practice is still keeping him very busy.

Brecon was Concertmaster and 1st Violinist in the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (of which he was a co-founder) for 18 years and, prior to this, was Concertmaster of the Symphonia of Auckland.

Now retired, Brecon continues to contribute to the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra as Concertmaster Emeritus. Brecon also continues to keep active with his involvement in such activities as his current private violin teaching practice, and plays in and occasionally conducts the Devonport Chamber Orchestra, and directs the String Quartet Summer School.

In a long and illustrious career, Brecon has performed with such prestigious orchestras as the New BBC Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Elizabethan Trust Orchestra (the resident orchestra of the Sydney Opera House), the Symphonia of Auckland, and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.

Brecon began playing the piano at age six, and the violin at seven years, guided and encouraged by musical parents. He then went on to train at the Royal Manchester College of Music (now the Royal Northern College of Music). His training continued with Sidney Griller of the Griller Quartet and chamber music classes with members of the Amadeus String Quartet.

Join us for morning tea and biscuits from 10:30am, with the talk beginning at 10:45am.
Everyone is welcome.
