Fun easy activities to teach children about conservation is the aim of the Kids Greening Taupō Conservation Event Series for young families.

The next event in the series is being held at the Memorial Lawn in the beautiful Waipahihi Botanical Gardens, focusing on activities about our birds, ideal for the young families.

The easy activities - which can also be done at home - will include exploring New Zealand’s birds, how important the environment is for their survival, arts and crafts making their very own bird nest and having a go at making a bird feeder.

Kids Greening Taupō, the school-based programme with five local education centres is responding to community requests from others eager to get involved.

“Our first event was fantastic with great attendance from local families”, says an excited Thea de Petris Kids Greening Taupō co-ordinator. “Seeing kids having fun outdoors in nature is exactly what we wanted to achieve with this series and what we aspire to do again with our upcoming event.”
