A hands-on practical course with a focus on writing web content that will cover the basic skills needed to know how to help your readers and potential visitors find the information they want, navigate your site and stay on your site.

Some activities will use WordPress to demonstrate particular topics (e.g. tools to assist search engine optimisation and integrating a site with Google Analytics). However, no prior knowledge of WordPress is expected. Ideally, you will have some prior experience of writing web content and using content management systems, but this is not essential.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Define and apply the basic principles of writing for the web and writing for readers using mobile devices
- Build a logical information architecture for your site to improve “findability” • Apply the basic principles of web usability
- Apply the basic principles of web accessibility and the NZ Government Standards
- Apply the fundamentals of search engine optimisation (SEO) to writing better web content
- Measure website usage using tools such as Google Analytics
