Barbara Tuck’s new exhibition, Plume of Steam, follows two trips into the Rotorua region, where Mt Tarawera's violent 1886 eruption destroyed the tiers of delicately tinted silica hot pools known as the Pink and White Terraces.

Turning over the textures of sinter terraces, microbial mats, mineral-laden water, crystal deposits, steam and cloudscapes, Tuck contemplates painterly inwardness and what remains of one of the world's C19th scenic wonderlands.
