We are a group of concerned citizens of theTutukaka Coast, whose mission is to raise awareness about the effects of pesticides on human health and the environment.

More and more people are asking:
- How come that we in “Clean Green New Zealand” have one of the highest breast cancer rates in the world?
- How come our waterways and harbours are not constantly monitored?… in spite of NIWA describing glyphosate as a chemical of concern in marine sediment.
- How come the widespread use of neonicotinoid insecticides continues, which poses an immense threat to our honey industry and horticulture?... in spite of it being recognised internationally to cause severe impacts.
- Why is it we are not informed about how we can replace hazardous pesticides with healthy agroecological alternatives?

In the light of the recent helicopter spraying on the Tutukaka coast, we have asked agricultural scientist and international expert on pesticides Dr. Meriel Watts to give a presentation on the effects of pesticides on the health of humans and the environment and talk to us about the healthy alternatives.

Dr. Watts has just returned from the United Nations Conferences of the Parties to the Basel, Stockholm and Rotterdam Conventions; three UN chemicals conventions that seek to limit the damage to human health and the environment caused by pesticides, industrial chemicals and waste. Dr. Watts is one of a small team of international experts representing civil society on issues relating to pesticides.

Here in New Zealand we don’t seem to have the funds for such extensive research as other nations have. It is therefore crucial and sensible that we make use of the new knowledge which is available internationally, so NZ is not left behind!

The Northland Toxin Awareness Group (NTAG) is organising the opportunity for all Iwi and Hapu of Te Tai Tokerau, WDC, NRC, DOC, District Health Board, Forest and Bird Society, Beekeepers, Agriculturists... for everyone concerned to come and ask:
“Are Pesticides Affecting Us?…and What Are the Healthy Alternatives?”

Dr. Watts will be able to enlighten us about the latest international knowledge and can advise on how we can make positive changes for all of us.

This evening is our gift to the country we love; to the community, we live in, the whole of Northland and New Zealand. We herewith would like to invite you to accept our gift and come to learn about the healthy alternatives to pesticides, for the benefit of human health in our community and for our treasured environment.
