Learn about Chinese Calligraphy, its history and origins, and the development up to the present day, with tutor Cathay Wicks.

Originally from Guang Zhou in the Canton province of China, Cathay has lived in New Zealand for 18 months with her Canadian husband. She has an enthusiasm and passion for calligraphy and studied under Shi Xuan, a well-known expert in calligraphy with over 20 years of experience.

At the workshop, students will learn about the five main types of Chinese calligraphy, the history and origins, and the development up to the present day. A selection of Chinese paintbrushes, paper and ink are included in the cost of the workshops and students will experiment with making Chinese calligraphic strokes and characters.

Cathay is looking forward to sharing her skills and spreading an understanding of the Chinese language in written form. Students are encouraged to bring along their own brushes and paper and/or questions. Places are limited on this special workshop so early booking is recommended!

During the workshop, you will learn how to use a Chinese Brush (included in the cost of the workshops) and will experiment with making Chinese calligraphic strokes.
