An Author Panel: David Riley & Maria Gill - Writing about Our People and Our Places.

David Riley and Maria Gill are both award-winning authors of children's and young adults non-fiction books.

Come along to meet them and learn about what makes an author tick. Bring along your questions on where, what and why they are so passionate about writing non-fiction for the youth of today.

David Riley - David Riley is an award-winning Kiwi children’s author and high school Drama and English teacher. David writes books and reading resources for teachers, parents and young people. He’s written two plays and 17 books including Off Loading with Sonny Bill Williams which was longlisted in the 2015 Lianza Children’s Book Awards.

In 2016, two of David’s books, Jammin’ with Steven Adams and Samoan Heroes, won Storylines Notable Books Awards. Find out more about David and his books at readingwarrior.com

Maria Gill - Author Maria Gill has written 63 books for children and teachers. Her book Anzac Heroes with Marco Ivancic won the 2016 New Zealand Book Awards for Children & Young Adult Non-fiction prize as well as the Margaret Mahy Book of the Year Award.

Maria and Marco also collaborated with New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame, which shortlisted for the 2015 LIANZA and Children’s Choice Awards. Maria has another two books coming out with Marco in 2017 and 2018 called Abel Tasman: Mapping the Southern Lands and Anzac Animals.
