Rangiora Players

Everyone needs to laugh at themselves sometimes, and that’s certainly true in theatre. With that in mind, Rangiora Players invites you to Little Grimley, a fictional village where the local amateur dramatic society is struggling to stay afloat.

Gordon, Margaret, Bernard and Joyce, the hapless core of stalwart members, prepare to stage three separate productions, each one with a bold twist on the customary form. It’s all part of a desperate bid to finally get an audience that outnumbers the cast.

The twists are the brainchild of overbearing chairman and director Gordon, who appears to have been watching too much Saturday night television.

“There’s only one thing that sells tickets these days,” he declares to his stunned colleagues. “Sex.”

And Gordon just happens to have written the perfect saucy script to deliver their salvation, the Last Tango in Little Grimley.

Emboldened by his writing efforts Gordon rolls up his sleeves and tackles the pantomime genre, penning the Last Panto in Little Grimley. Hardly the big musical number long-suffering Joyce had her heart set on, but what could possibly go wrong? Surely, no one could mess up a classic pantomime? …Oh, yes they could.

And when frustration boils over at audiences staying home to gorge on reality-TV talent shows, Gordon fights fire with fire by unleashing his most outrageous idea yet: Strictly Sex Factor (On Ice).

So, a warm welcome is extended to one and all - turn off the telly for a night, and come and laugh along with the Little Grimley Amateur Dramatic Society.

Written by David Tristram and directed by Peter Edwards, the production runs Wednesdays to Saturdays starting at 7:30 pm, from May 31 to June 3, and June 7-10.

Tickets are available online or over the counter from Stan’s 7 Day Pharmacy at 15 Ashley Street, Rangiora or the Kaiapoi i-SITE visitor centre at 143 Williams Street, Kaiapoi (03) 327 3134.
