This year’s popular Hauraki Gulf Marine Park Seminar takes its inspiration from seabirds/ngā manu o te Moana.

The Gulf is a global hotspot for seabirds, with 27 species making it home.

Some, like the taiko/ black petrel, breed nowhere else. Many roam the world oceans between visits, their patterns mirroring the workings and health of the marine ecosystem.

Hear stories from scientists, kaitiaki, artists, fishers and field workers that will inspire and enlighten. Can seabirds show how we should consider, manage and utilise the Gulf into the future? What makes these amazing flying machines tick?

Taking Flight promises a day of immersion in the fascinating world of seabirds, with a catered lunch and teas.
