Wynyard Quarter

We’re getting our party poppers out and celebrating big kid style for Wynyard Quarter’s 5th birthday. From kids yoga to circus games, tango and breakdancing, delicious street food, Silo Cinema and so much more, there’s something for everyone.

Dawn Chorus, Viaduct Events Centre Balcony: 7 am - 7:45 am
Join the Auckland Choral community as they sing for the breaking dawn followed by tea and toast at the Karanga Plaza Info Kiosk (dawn 7:14 am).

Mini Golf Play & Design with #scribbleAKL, Karanga Plaza: 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
The community that brought you upcycled pop-up Mini Golf is bringing a taster of their future course. Play a hole of quirky upcycled mini golf and join in the design process for the next 18-hole course.

The Open Fort - A Walking Birthday Adventure, Jellicoe Plaza: 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
A playful audio journey through Wynyard Quarter to find giant birthday presents and play new party games. Signups at the Open Fort booth, MP3 players and headphones provided.

Auckland Libraries Book Bus, Playspace: 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
Check out the Book Bus and its massive selection of books, digital library items and all get your strangest Library questions answered.

Recycled Huts, Playspace: 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
Come help build the biggest newspaper hut possible over the course of the day.

Compost Collective, North Wharf: 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
Ever wondered what a worm farm looks like beneath its lid? Here’s your chance to see nutrient rich, smell-free compost in action, and ask the pros any questions.

Chat with the driver of a Dockline Tram, Daldy Street: 9:30 am - 3 pm
The historic Auckland Dockline tram is currently on leave due to street works, but for Wynyard Quarter’s special birthday we’re getting her out of the shed. So get on board and have a chat with the knowledgeable drivers.

Ngati Whatua Orakei presents mahi raranga, Te Wero Island Containers: 10 am - 3:30 pm
Try your hand at weaving a putiputi (flower) as a gift for a loved one or decorate your own.

Food Space at Wynyard Quarter 5th Birthday, Silo Park: 11 am - 5:30 pm
Lunch time at Silo Park is sorted with an eclectic line-up of street food vendors.

Silo Sessions at Wynyard Quarter 5th Birthday, Silo Park: 12 pm - 3 pm
Live music from Dave Weir (12 nn), Anthonie Tonnon (1 pm) and Reb Fountain (2 pm) under Silo 7.

UV Play Dough, Silo 6: 11 am - 3:30 pm
It’s not quite a rave, it’s not quite Playschool, but if you're a youth of the '80s then this one’s for you (and the kids).

Workshops on the Wharf - Circus Skills, Playspace, Silo Park: 11 am - 1 pm
Put your circus performing skills to the test.

Sustainable Coastlines Flagship Education Hub, Beaumont St: 10 am - 4 pm
From 2 pm till 3:30 pm make upcycled herb and garden planter boxes from old timber shipping pallets. See Sustainable Coastline website to register.

Breakdancing with the Breaks NZ, Eastern Edge of Halsey Wharf: 12 pm - 3 pm
Witness the fitness with some of the best breakdancers in Auckland.

NZ Pop-Up Sauna, Near the Tidal Steps: 12 pm - 9 pm
The perfect place to spend time with friends or warm up after a wintery plunge into the sea. $10 waged or $5 unwaged.

Lantern Making Workshop, Playspace: 1 pm - 3 pm
Make and decorate your very own lantern to take home.

Silo Cinema - Inside Out, Silo Park: 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Riley is a happy go lucky Midwestern gal, but her world turns upside-down when her family moves to the other side of the country. Riley's emotions - led by Joy try to guide her through this difficult, life-changing event. However, the stress of the shift her emotions go awry. When Joy and Sadness are sucked into the far reaches of Riley's mind, the only emotions left in Headquarters are Anger, Fear and Disgust.

Plus plenty more to see and do on the day.

Wynyard Quarter is growing up fast, join us as we celebrate this changing part of Auckland with a fun day out!
