The South Island’s own international children’s performer Craig Smith - aka “Wonky Donkey Man” - will perform in his only Oamaru show for 2016 this coming school holidays. Coming along for the ride on this double bill extravaganza, Craig will introduce you to one of the United Kingdom’s leading children performers: “Mr Yipadee” (Dean O’Brien).

Deano, a Kiwi (Dunedinite) living in the UK for the last 14 years, is a children’s author and musician whose albums topped the UK Children’s Charts on numerous occasions over the last few years. He’s returning home for a couple of months to tour NZ in association with his new books released by Scholastic.

His first book is Scholastic’s lead title this Christmas in Australasia, called “Jingle Bells Rudolph Smells” which is released on October 1st. Deano has headlined at the Glastonbury Festival, worked with writers from Bob The Builder and even collaborated with Coronation Street stars. This Dunedinite has swiftly gained a reputation as one of the UK’s top children’s music producers and performers, working with TV personalities from the four main networks including the BBC and CiTV.

Craig Smith is an APRA Children’s Music Award-winning musician whose success in music has been across many genres and includes his children’s music as well as his stories in song being turned into children’s books, for which he has won several of NZ’s highest children’s book awards, the NZ Post Book Awards.

His four albums have all been successful. The song “The Wonky Donkey” is by far the most popular, followed closely by other stories in songbooks: “Willbee the Bumblebee”, “Kaha the Kea”, “My Daddy Ate an Apple”, “Square Eyes” and the recently released “Eating.” Craig has now sold nearly a million copies of his books worldwide.

Suitable for all children from two years of age upward, this upbeat sixty-minute show features songs, stories, and interaction, with a number of characters involved and including audience participation.

Both artists will have time to sign their books and have photos after each show performance.

The show is kindly supported by Waitaki District Libraries and the Oamaru Kindergarten Association.
