This workshop is an opportunity to learn or further develop your skills in watercolour painting. The tutor is Kay de Lautour MFA Hons, PG Dip SNRT, BA, TTC, a New Zealand artist who has an extensive background in teaching all painting media, but her preferred medium is watercolour. She teaches in New Zealand and from her home in Italy.

Workshop Structure:
Day 1: 9.30am to 4pm (“Complete newbies” start at 9am - see note below).
We begin with a quick demonstration which will revise techniques you might already know. The warm-up exercises that follow take us to morning tea. The rest of the morning tuition will focus on wet-in-wet, layering washes and painting from light to dark using a Still Life theme. After the lunch break we will look at identifying and creating planes – that is, how to establish distance in a painting. After the short coffee break, during which you might wish to continue painting, we will look at foregrounds and how to paint them using a Landscape theme. An important part of the day is learning how to read the water and let it do its magic carrying the pigment on the paper.

Day 2: 9am to 3pm.
We will focus on creating form and painting shadows. This touches on perspective drawing and identifying light sources and reflected light. We will finish at 3pm so travellers can drive home in good light.

Plenty of parking available on campus next to workshop. Map attached or will be sent upon registration.

Registration upon payment.

Level: This course is suitable for beginners and continuers. Advanced painters are welcome to work on their own projects, with guidance as necessary, within the class structure. Complete 'newbies' welcome.

Materials: A recommended materials list will be issued once you have enrolled in the course. See note below if you are just wishing to try watercolours but are not sure that it really is the medium for you.

Facilities: Tea and coffee will be available but please bring your own lunch as there are no cafeteria facilities on campus in the weekend. Taradale shops are about a 10-minute walk from EIT.
