Up-cycling - Fun Bag Making

Sorry this event has been and gone

  • Sat 25 Jun ’16, 10:00am – 4:00pm

Auckland Women’s Centre, 4 Warnock St , Grey Lynn

Tutor - Barbara Woodman

In this textile up-cycling workshop you will develop your creativity and learn practical skills for making unique new items from old ones. You will learn how to turn tee shirts into yarn, then how to crochet that yarn into a cool shoulder bag that you can use for the shopping or as a funky hand bag.

What you need: Four colourful plain knit tee shirts, your own used ones or ones you’ve hunted down at a charity shop. Plain extra large ones are great but any are fine, if you don't have time to shop you can buy some from the tutor on the day; sharp scissors that will cut tee shirt fabric easily; sewing thread. The tutor will bring huge crochet hooks that you can use on the day (and buy to take home if you wish).

Let’s save our planet one garment at a time!

Fun Bag Making workshops are held by Barbara Woodman who is passionate about waste minimisation and creativity. She is the owner of Warm Hearts Up-cycling, a social enterprise whose purpose is to minimise textile waste while helping local refugee women develop income and social connection.
