"Oft have I digg'd up dead men from their graves, And set them upright at their dear friends' door..."

Shakespeare's bloody and vengeful masterpiece, which famously features a dark Jacobean take on the good old kiwi pie, is given a makeover by award-winning Auckland company Fractious Tash.

Regarded as one of Shakespeare’s bloodiest works, this reworking of Titus is told at break-neck speed with just seven young actors in an all-male, explosive adaptation.

Set within a wasteland where power is brutality, a tribe of scavengers clamber among the debris to find anything that will help them retell the story of a legend – Titus Andronicus and his mutilated daughter, Lavinia. These lost boys invest their toys with the fervour of abandonment: in their fantasies of war and revenge teddy-bears bleed but boys do not. As scruples are abandoned and the stakes grow dizzily higher, Titus encapsulates the one thing we all know but fail to learn from – revenge is a childish pursuit.

Fractious Tash Theatre Company. Boisterous. Clamorous. Riotous. Committed to creating new worlds that reflect our own through an off-kilter vision that is urgent, razor-sharp and cheeky to the hilt.

Fractious Tash is led by artistic director Benjamin Henson and producer Jason Hodzelmans. Formed in 2012 with a controversial production, 'Confessions', the company quickly won the Wellington Fringe Rogue Award.

Their all-male rebooting of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus was snapped up by Q Theatre's 'Q Presents...' 2013 programme, receiving critical acclaim at sell-out performances. Fractious Tash more recently Joined forces with Last Tapes Theatre Company to present an all-male, dandy-inspired Importance of Being Earnest, with a live soundtrack from the greatest hits of Cher, also at Q Theatre - and also sold out.

The company continues to build through on-going collaboration with some of the country's most inspiring artists and forward-thinking venues.

"Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines"

Pop-up Globe is an open air amphitheatre and in the Groundlings under the sun it can get quite hot. We recommend bringing a hat, sunscreen, a water bottle and even a handheld fan. Umbrellas are not permitted inside the yard so in case of rain please bring a raincoat!

Pop-up Globe Auckland is a full-scale working temporary replica of the second Globe Theatre originally built by Shakespeare and his company in 1614, the result of groundbreaking international academic research. With a steel frame ‘skinned’ in plywood the Pop-up Globe fuses cutting-edge scaffold technology with 400-year-old designs and superb contemporary performances to create an immersive 360 degree experience unlike any other.
