American photographer and activist Substantia Jones explores the complex world of social justice, body politics, visibility for marginalised populations of and finding beauty where it's culturally unexpected.

Adipositivity requires the observer to suspend cultural bias and explore a body-positive attitude with a series of empowering images of everyday people - parents, lovers, executives, artists, musicians, educators - who have shed their clothing to literally broaden the definition of beauty and in the process confront popular belief that there is only one worthy body.

Substantia Jones will give a public talk on her art and activism at Te Manawa in Gallery Five on Saturday 2 July at 2pm.
